The NIPUN Teacher Quiz App is a mobile first assessment platform designed to evaluate and strengthen teacher competencies aligned with the goals of the NIPUN Bharat Mission. Unlike traditional learning platforms that prioritize content consumption, this platform focuses on competency based self assessment and improvement. Built with a gamified and assessment driven approach, the platform helps teachers identify gaps in foundational literacy, numeracy, and pedagogy while motivating continuous improvement through structured quizzes, feedback loops, and progress tracking.
01
While large volumes of teacher training content already existed, a critical gap remained: teachers often lacked visibility into their own competency gaps. Self perception of teaching ability did not always align with actual classroom readiness. Most platforms focused on delivering content rather than helping teachers understand where they were struggling and how to improve. Without structured self assessment, teachers could not clearly identify weaknesses, take targeted corrective actions, or measure their improvement over time.
02
The goal was to design a platform that enables competency based self awareness for teachers through structured digital assessments. The platform needed to objectively evaluate skills across literacy, numeracy, and pedagogy while recommending targeted learning resources to address identified gaps. It also had to support large scale participation, maintain high engagement through gamification, and operate primarily on mobile devices to ensure accessibility for teachers across regions.

ManpraX developed the NIPUN Teacher Quiz App, an assessment centric platform that reverses the traditional learning flow. Teachers first attempt competency mapped quizzes to evaluate their skills. Based on the results, the system highlights strengths and learning gaps and recommends relevant resources for improvement. Teachers can then reassess themselves to track progress and measure growth over time. This structured Assess - Reflect - Improve -Reassess cycle creates a continuous learning loop driven by evidence rather than assumption.
The platform evaluates teacher competencies through structured quizzes mapped to specific learning outcomes. Each assessment is designed to provide meaningful insights into pedagogical understanding, literacy, and numeracy skills rather than simply generating scores.
The system integrates gamification mechanisms such as badges, levels, leaderboards, and multiple attempt logic to encourage repeated participation. Competitions and batch based engagement models further motivate teachers to participate consistently and improve their performance.
Built on a heavily customized Open edX architecture, the platform modifies traditional content centric workflows to support competency based assessments, advanced scoring logic, gamification rules, and detailed progress tracking.
Short, engaging quizzes increased teacher participation and sustained assessment activity across the platform.
Teachers gained clear visibility into their strengths and competency gaps, enabling more focused improvement.
Badges, levels, and leaderboards boosted motivation and encouraged repeat participation.
The platform supports continuous improvement across pedagogy, literacy, and numeracy competencies.
Assessments mapped directly to competencies help teachers understand not only their scores but also the meaning behind each identified skill gap.
Badges, leaderboards, and multiple attempt logic helped sustain participation and maintain motivation in an assessment-heavy platform.
Designing primarily for mobile devices enables easier adoption among teachers with varying levels of digital familiarity across different regions.
The Assess → Reflect → Improve → Reassess model creates a continuous cycle of improvement supported by measurable progress indicators.
One of the primary engineering challenges was designing an assessment-heavy platform that could maintain long-term engagement without overwhelming teachers. This required carefully balancing quiz difficulty, scoring logic, gamification systems, and attempt rules to keep participation consistent. Another complexity involved implementing competency intelligence within assessments so results could provide meaningful insights rather than simple numerical scores. The system had to clearly communicate what a teacher lacked and why it mattered in classroom practice. Extensive customization of Open edX was required to support competency mapping, adaptive scoring logic, gamification workflows, and progress tracking mechanisms that differ significantly from traditional content-delivery platforms.
The next phase of the platform introduces AI-assisted intelligence to improve assessment scalability and personalization. Planned capabilities include AI-generated question drafts based on competency frameworks, human-in-the-loop approval workflows for content validation, adaptive question randomization based on performance patterns, and personalized assessments that evolve as teachers progress. This phase will enable dynamic and scalable assessments while maintaining academic oversight and quality control.
The NIPUN Teacher Quiz App represents a shift from content consumption to competency realization. By placing assessment at the center and combining it with a gamified, mobile-first experience, the platform enables teachers to identify gaps, track improvement, and continuously strengthen their teaching competencies. For ManpraX, the project demonstrates expertise in building large-scale EdTech platforms where behavioral engagement, pedagogy, and technology work together to drive meaningful educational impact.
